ChemE Jan07 Blogging Policy [Edited]

ChemE Jan07 Blogging Policy

In general, the ChemE Jan07 Committee views personal websites and weblogs positively, and it respects the right of students to use them as a medium of self-expression. If you choose to identify yourself as a chemejan07 members, some readers may nonetheless view you as a de facto spokesperson for the organization. In light of this possibility, we ask that you observe the following guidelines:

1. You are personally responsible
Please make it clear to readers that the views you express are yours alone and that they do not necessarily reflect the views of ChemE Jan07. Put a disclaimer saying so. One more thing, please don’t write anonymously.

2. Abide existing rule
No slanderous or hatred statement. No sensitive issues like racism, nationality, religion, politics and etc. However, we are promoting mutual understanding through intellectual discourse. Be careful to avoid disclosing any information that is confidential or proprietary to the organization, UTP or to any third party that has disclosed information to us. For good measure, consult the moderator.

3. Be respectful to others.
Since this blog is a public space, we hope you will be as respectful to ChemE Jan07 as ChemE Jan07 itself endeavors to be. Common-sense isn’t it? Watch what you're saying, don't insult anyone, don't be obscene, don't attack people personally, avoid inflammatory subjects and etc.

4. Be interesting but be honest.
Writing is hard work. There's no point doing it if people don't read it. The best way to be interesting is to write about what you know. If you have a deep understanding of something, talk about the challenges and issues around it. Try not to rant about things you don't understand, as you're more likely to get embarrassed by a real expert.

5. Preferable topics of interest
Academic material, important and urgent announcement, relevant events in UTP or anywhere around the world, career, ChemE Jan07 achievements, motivation, current issues (politics, economic recession, environment, flood, famine and etc.), industry, sports and biography.

6. Respect copyrights.
Ask for permission from respective person if you want to post other’s writing or any protected material. It is encouraged to provide a link from the sites that you are citing. However, chemejan07 is not responsible if any legal action taken upon you for breaching copyright (refer to the first rule).

7. Moderation
The goal of moderating is to "guide and nurture" not "command and control." So, the moderator(s) have right to add value by maintaining the content. Finally, please be aware that the moderator ‘syura’ may request that you temporarily confine your posts or comments to topics unrelated to the organization if it believes this is necessary or advisable to ensure compliance with ChemE Jan07 blogging policy, security regulations or other laws.

1. I will tell the truth.
2. I will write deliberately and with accuracy.
3. I will acknowledge and correct mistakes promptly.
4. I will preserve the original post, using notations to show where I have made changes so as to maintain the integrity of my publishing.
5. I will never delete a post.
6. I will not delete comments unless they are spam or off-topic.
7. I will reply to emails and comments when appropriate, and do so promptly.
8. I will strive for high quality with every post – including basic spellchecking.
9. I will stay on topic.
10. I will disagree with other opinions respectfully.
11. I will link to online references and original source materials directly.
12. I will disclose conflicts of interest.
13. I will keep private issues and topics private, since discussing private issues would jeopardize my personal and work relationships.
